this little life of mine
June 28, 2004   ::   There's two sides to every story . . .

. . . and the other side is here:

"Fahrenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness. It is also a spectacle of abject political cowardice masking itself as a demonstration of 'dissenting' bravery."

If you're curious, the rest of that article is here. There's also this one.

June 26, 2004   ::   Festival Fun!

Mom and I went to the Atascadero Wine Festival today. It was so much fun! We tried some new wines - and found a particularly delicious one! - listened to some great music, and browsed some lovely art displays. Afterwards we toured the Zoo. It was a truly wonderful day, and you can read all about it here! Cheers!

Finally. It's Friday. I'm sorry I haven't been blogging much this week. Been busy. Umm. Yeah. Actually most of my writing has been done in the journal, and I've just been too darn tired after all that to add anything here.

I'm so glad this week is over! I've been so darn tired, it'll be nice to sleep in a bit tomorrow.

Speaking of, tomorrow is the Atascadero Wine Festival, and naturally I'll be there! I'm looking forward to walking around the lake, trying some new wines, relaxing in the park, and, my favourite part, visiting the zoo!

And, finally, I went and got a manicure and pedicure after work this evening. I did the French manicure on my toes, and they look particularly cute, imo!

Cheers!

1. I'm almost completely over my cold! I'm still having to blow my nose every ten minutes or so, but for the most part, the congestion has cleared up, and I can breathe again!

2. I got to play with Pugs last night! Man! We went to my aunt and uncle's for Father's Day, and I took the opportunity to play tug-of-war and fetch with their two Pugs Bow Wow and Trixie. That little Trixie is relentless in her pursuit of playtime! It was way fun!

3. Along the same line, the Claratin worked pretty well at keeping my allergies at bay. I did have some itchy problems when the dogs scratched or bit me (not bad, or anything; just playful nips), and I had a mild asthma attack. Still, not bad.

4. It's the first official day of summer! Yay! Summer!

June 18, 2004   ::   Rumblings

We had another little quake earlier this evening. It felt at first like someone had kicked the back on my chair hard, then the chandelier started to rattle, and we knew it was a small quake (small being 3.1) and that it was closer than many of the quakes and/or aftershocks we've had. It was no big: nothing fell over, nothing fell down, nothing broke. That was our excitement for the evening.

  ::   One more quiz thing . . .

. . . then I'll quit for a while and post some real content. Promise. I found this one at Gigglechick.

1. Where were you when you heard that Ronald Reagan died?
At home. I felt sad, but at the same time, a bit relieved. He'd been so sick for so long, and I'm glad he's in a better place.

2. Where were you on September 11, 2001?
I was getting ready for work when I first heard something was wrong on TV. I watched the coverage on the Today Show for as long as I could, long enough to watch both towers fall, then went to work. We had a brief meeting in the lobby about what was going on, then stoically went about our day.

3. Where were you when you heard that Princess Diana died?
At my grandparent's. I just happened to turn on the TV and surf to CNN, where they were showing live pictures and talking about the accident.

4. Do you remember where you were when you heard Kurt Cobain had died?
No, I just remember thinking that was a pretty shitty thing to do to his daughter.

5. Take one for The Gipper: What's your favorite flavor of jelly bean?
Licorice. Yum!

6. Where were you when Magic Johnson announced he was retiring from the NBA due to AIDS?
Lord, I don't know! I do remember hearing something about that, but since I'm not into basketball, I didn't pay that much attention.

7. Where were you when Reagan was shot?
That was my freshman year of high school. I heard some older kids joking about it in the halls, and got real upset. I wasn't a big Reagan fan back then (I liked, and still do like, Carter), but the fact that someone had shot our President really scared me. I ducked down in the little corner under the stairway and cried.

8.Where were you when the Challenger exploded?
In my Sociology class at college. Some kids came around and told us about it. We turned on the TV and watched for a bit, then the professor excused us, and I went back to my dorm room to watch on TV some more and cry in private. That was so damn sad!

9. Where were you when the 0J verdict was announced?
At work - Clothestime to be exact - and it came over the radio. I was alone in the store - there was NOone out, I swear the whole mall was deserted! - which was a good thing since I got real upset by the verdict. UNbelievable!

June 17, 2004   ::   I'm sick

Still sick, that is. That cold I caught over the weekend is really sapping my strength! I've been slacking on my workouts and eating poorly, so I generally feel pretty blah. However. I am starting to get better, and plan on resuming my exercise and diet programs first thing next week! Oh, and I started taking vitamins, so maybe that's helping. I've seen this stuff in the drug stores, and contemplated buying it before going to Riverside, but in the end, decided against it. You can bet I'm going to pick some up tonight, and take it before, during, and after JournalCon!!!

The CAPA Conference in Riverside, CA was nice, but it's good to be home. Especially since I managed to pick up a bug somewhere along the way, so I'm sick as a dog right now. Luckily I discovered Advil Cold and Sinus, so I think I will live through the day. I got a lot of great pictures (the Mission Inn where the conference was held and where I stayed, is beautiful!), which I will be sharing soon, and descriptions of my fascinating adventures coming soon, too. Right now, however, I'm going to go lie down and try to sleep. Cheers!

June 8, 2004   ::   And, it's my favourite colour, too!

HASH(0x8b35130)
You're the color blue. You have the three c's in
life--you're cool, caring and confident.
Trustworthy and honest, people are naturally
attracted to you. You're unusually optimistic,
but that makes life all the better. You're an
imaginative person who loves sleeping and
dreaming. Hard-working and determined, you
excell in school. You're everybody's favorite,
and this is because you have this undefined
richness in your personality and attitude.
Mild-tempered and stable. Not to mention very
intelligent. Along with the fact that you're
conservative, you're worried about the
environment. So basically, you're a generous,
dependable and devoted--just the kind of person
everybody needs. Wouldn't it be great if
everybody in the world were like you?

YOU ARE AUDREY HEPBURN
WORSHIP! You're inner Bombshell is the beautiful
Audrey Hepburn. Like her you've been blessed
with a "certain something" that no
one could describe accurately. You are more
reserved than other bombshells, and that shows
in your gentle, graceful nature. You like doing
things for other people and love volunteering
for your favorite charity. Yours is a rare gift
in this day and age. You don't need to show a
lot of skin to be sexy, all you need is your
eyes. To see Audrey at the top of her game
watch the movie "Breakfast at
Tiffanys".

June 2, 2004   ::   A Day at the Peach

That's the name of this pretty peachy-pink polish on my toes:

It inspired my 100 Words entry for today:

I got a spa pedicure tonight instead of working out. My toenails really needed to be trimmed and filed and painted, and my body really needed to sit in a comfy, vibrating chair and have someone else deal with my nasty feet. I've got class tomorrow night, so I can't do it then; Friday we're having another Patio Party at work. Tonight was the only time I could do it this week, so I did. Now my toenails are a glittery, peachy pink, my cuticles are trimmed, and my rough, dry feet have been scrubbed to baby-butt softness. Ahh! Nice!

We interrupt this regularly scheduled lunch hour to say . . . holy cow! This new "GoMix" from Balance Bar is fantastic! I just finished off the Mixed Berry Crisp, and it was quite yummy! I bought one of each flavour a couple weeks ago, but only today remembered to put one in my lunch bag. It's good! Really good! I highly recommend it! Okay, now back to lunch!
